Description:
An elegant old-vine Spanish white offering pear, apricot, citrus and stone fruit, accented by white flowers, almond, herbs and subtle vanilla. The palate combines a creamy, rounded texture with bright acidity and a distinctive slate-like mineral and saline character, finishing fresh and persistent.
Pairing Recommendation:
Excellent with oysters, shrimp, scallops, grilled fish, crab, roast chicken and creamy seafood dishes. For Midtown Provisions, pair with fresh oysters or jumbo shrimp.
Interesting Facts:
Godello nearly disappeared as a grape variety in the 20th century before dedicated growers in northwestern Spain helped revive it. Today, it is considered one of Spain's most distinctive premium white-wine grapes.
This particular wine is even more unusual because Avancia produces it from extremely old Godello vines, including a vineyard originally planted in 1904. The old vines and the slate-rich soils of Valdeorras contribute to the wine's concentration, minerality and distinctive character.
Serve: 48–52°F. No decanting necessary; avoid serving it ice-cold so the texture and mineral character can show.
